Frishta Background Information
- In Northern India live 400 million people and all of the indicators measuring child welfare: infant mortality, literacy, access to healthcare, unemployment and infrastructure, all point to the great need of this area.
- Location… 8 acres of land has been purchased in the village of Mukandpur, near Dera Basi in the of Mohali district, 25km SW of Chandigarh, Punjab, India.

- The city of Chandigarh is the State capital of both Punjab and Haryana states and attracts many migrants looking for work and a better standard of living. The population of Chandigarh is approximately 1 million people and there are several slums in the city as well as a significant number of urban poor in the surrounding area.
